Play of the Day #40 (2018-19)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-1 is shooting two free throws with 3.2 seconds left in regulation. A-1 makes the first putting  Team A up by 3.  A-1 misses the second free throw. B-1 gets the rebound and tries to pass the ball to B-2 at the far end of the court. Ball goes out of bounds.  Official sounds whistle with 0.1 seconds showing on the clock.  Team A rushes onto floor celebrating the victory. They are then informed there is still 0.1 seconds to be played.  Handle the situation.

This situation is different from the situation where a fight might break out.  When a fight might break out, each individual who leaves the bench is charged with a flagrant technical foul.  Still, since the horn has not sounded and the clock still shows time left in the game, Team A should not be on the floor.  Team A should be charged one technical foul for multiple bench personnel coming onto the court en masse.  The head coach of Team A receives an indirect technical foul.  Team B is awarded two free throws and the ball at the division line for a designated spot throw-in.  Please note that Team B can only score via a tap since less than four-tenths of a second remain in the quarter.     (References: Rule 10-5-2, 10-5-2 Penalty, NFHS Interpretation, 5-2-5)

The game is not over. Time still remains on the clock. Team B could score via a tap (5-2-5). A foul could occur during the throw-in. If Team B was in the bonus, they would then be awarded free throws.

Thanks. This gets us thinking about Basketball. Also, the Game WAS NOT over, so we have to administer
    the game procedures right.
