The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A-5 receives the ball in the low post with her back to the basket. As A-5 steps into the lane with her right foot and turns to go up to shoot, B-5 places both hands on A-5’s hip. The Lead official rules a handchecking foul. A-5 continues her movement and places her left foot on the floor before going up to release the try. The Center official sounds his whistle and rules a traveling violation. The ball goes through the goal. Handle the situation.
By rule, A-5 has been fouled in the act of shooting. Continuous motion includes pivoting and stepping as part of the usual and customary movements prior to the release of the try. However, in completing her foot movements, A-5 traveled when she placed her left foot back down on the floor. As such, the ball became dead at this point. Therefore, the try ended when A-5 traveled. The goal is not counted since a dead ball passed through the goal. A-5 will be awarded two free throws. (References: Rule 4-11-1, 4-11-2, 6-7-9, 9-4-4, 10-7-12a, 10-7 Penalty 5a)

I am not sure if you rule A5 has traveled, you can say she is in the act of shooting. Am I missing something here?
