A-5 scores a goal. B-1 grabs the ball after it passes through the net and jumps into the air with both feet leaving the floor inbounds. Before B-1 lands out-of-bounds, he passes to B-2 who is in-bounds. The Trail official sounds his whistle, rules no violation and awards the ball to B-1 for an end line throw-in do-over. Was the official correct?
The official was NOT correct. B-1 has committed a throw-in violation. By rule, the throw-in must be made from out-of bounds outside the end line. Regardless of B-1’s physical location in the air, by rule, B-1 was located inbounds since that was the last place he had contact with before becoming airborne.
