The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
Team B has been warned about flopping. A-1 drives to the basket. B-1 flops trying to draw a foul ruling from the official. A-1 misses the layup and the ball is rebounded by B-4. The official stops play and reports the flopping infraction to the scorer. The scorer does not inform the official that this is the second such infraction for Team B. Neither official is aware and the ball is awarded to Team B for a throw-in.
After Team B advances the ball to the frontcourt, the table sounds the horn and notifies the officials about the fact that this was the second flopping infraction for Team B.
Handle the situation.
Since the faking being fouled event was by the defense, the officials correctly allowed the play to continue until the defense obtained control of the ball. Since this was the second infraction, a technical foul should have been ruled. Instead a warning was issued.
It is not too late to correct this error. A team technical should be recorded in the scorebook for Team B. Team A should be awarded two free throws and the ball at the division line opposite the table.
