The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A-5 attempts a two-point goal. A-4 rebounds the unsuccessful try and is fouled by B-4. After the foul has been reported, A-5 is at the free throw line to attempt the free throws.
Handle the situation.
The question that needs to be answered here is was there any confusion about who was fouled. If it was not clear who was fouled and the official did not indicate whom the shooter would be, then correcting the situation is easy. Just put the correct shooter on the line.
However, if there was no confusion about who was fouled or if the official identified the shooter, then a technical foul should be ruled against A-5 for trying to attempt a free throw that he/she is not entitled to.
A-4 will attempt free throws with no players lined up. This will be followed by Team B attempting two free throws with no players lined up. Team B will receive the ball for a designated spot throw-in from the division line opposite the table.
