The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
During the fourth quarter, Team A uses its final timeout. Two minutes later, when A-1 is trapped by B-1 and B-2, the head coach of Team A requests a timeout.
Handle the situation.
The timeout is granted even if the official knows that the team has no more timeouts. The rules specifically state that “time-outs in excess of the allotted number may be requested and SHALL be granted…” As an official, we have no right to deny such a request if the conditions for granting the timeout are present.
Of course, a technical foul will be ruled and will be charged to the team not to any individual. The coach retains the right to use the coaching box. Team B will attempt the free throws after the timeout is over. Play will resume with a designated spot throw-in for Team B from the division line opposite the table.

Very Good Play. The Timeout must be granted and give the Technical Foul for no Timeouts
remaining. Thanks!
