The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A-1 attempts a throw-in pass from the sideline that hits the side edge of the backboard. A-1 steps inbounds and recovers the ball before any other player has touched the ball.
Handle the situation.
This is a throw-in violation. Regardless of what the ball may touch on the court, during a throw-in the thrower is not permitted to touch the ball until a teammate or an opponent has touched the ball or been touched by the ball.
If this violation occurs in the backcourt of Team A, the ensuing throw-in for Team B will be from one of the four designated throw-in spots or “magic” spots closest to the spot of the original throw-in. If in the frontcourt of Team A, the ensuing throw-in will be from the spot of the original throw-in.
