The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A-1 jumps and releases a three-point try. While still in the air, A-1 is fouled by B-1. At approximately the same time, the lead official rules a foul on A-5 near the basket for pushing B-5. The ball passes through the basket.
Handle the situation.
Since the fouls occurred at approximately the same time, this constitutes a simultaneous foul. Since the try was in the air, the goal counts. By rule, even though the shooter was fouled in the act of shooting, no free throws are awarded and play is resumed from the point of interruption.
The point of interruption is the point at which the ball became dead. In this case, that would be when the ball passed through the basket. Team B will be awarded the ball on the end line with the ability to move along the end line as after any score.
