The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
Team A has the alternating possession arrow. A-1 and B-1 grapple for the ball and a held ball is ruled. The Team B coach thought A-1 fouled his player and complains to the officials. A technical foul is ruled on the Team B coach.
Handle the situation.
Team A will be awarded two free throws. Then Team A will be awarded the ball for a designated spot throw-in from the division line opposite the table. The alternating possession arrow will not be switched since the throw-in is part of the penalty for the technical foul.
Officials need to be alert to the handling of the possession arrow in these cases since some table personnel may think that the arrow should be switched.
