A-5 and B-5 both tap the ball during a jump ball. A-5 taps the ball a second time. After this, B-5 catches the ball before it touches the floor or any other player.
Handle the situation.
Jumpers are allowed to tap the ball twice so A-5’s second tap was legal. However, jumpers are not allowed to catch the ball before the jump ball ends. The jump ball ends when the ball touches the floor, a non-jumper or an official. Since that did not happen in this play, B-5’s catching of the ball is not legal. This is a jump ball violation.
Team A will be awarded the ball for a designated spot throw-in at the spot nearest to where B-5 caught the ball. When the ball is at the disposal of Team A for the throw-in, the alternating possession arrow should be set towards Team B’s basket.
