Play of the Day #227 (2021-22)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

Team A is in the bonus.  During the last few moments of the quarter, A2 starts the act of shooting.  B2 fouls A2 as the horn sounds ending the period.  Then A2 releases the ball and the ball goes through the basket.

Handle the situation.

No goal can be scored since the ball was released after the horn had sounded ending the quarter.  Therefore, a dead ball passed through the basket.  However, A2 was in the act of shooting when fouled.  Since there was no goal, A2 should be awarded two or three free throws.  No players will line up along the lane.
