The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
The fourth quarter ends with the game tied. After the horn has sounded, the head coach for Team A harasses the officials and receives a technical foul.
Handle the situation.
Since the quarter has ended and the score is tied, the penalty for the technical foul will be administered to start the overtime period. Team B will receive two free throws and the ball at the division line to start the period. Of course, the coach loses the right to use the coaching box.
If Team B has been behind by one or two points, the penalty for the technical foul would have been administered immediately. The outcome of the free throws would have determined whether or not an extra period would be played. If the extra period would be needed, it would start with a jump ball.
