The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A1 dribbles to a spot on the wing and jumps to attempt a try. B1 jumps and dislodges the ball from A1’s grasp. While in the air, A1 recovers the ball, lands and dribbles into the basket for a layup.
Handle the situation.
This is a legal play. A1’s control of the ball ended when B1 knocked it from his grasp. The loose ball was entitled to be recovered by anyone including A1. Since player control had ended due to the bat by B1, A1 was entitled to begin another dribble.
