The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A1 attempts a try. The ball is on the ring when B1’s hand gets caught in the net. The ball does not go through the basket.
Handle the situation.
This is defensive basket interference. The goal is awarded. Team B will have the ball for a throw-in on the end line with the right to move along the end line.

Player A1 shoots a try for goal that is on the ring about to drop in when player A2 fouls B1. The official calls the fould before the ball passes into the ring. Does the basket count?
Once the try has been released, the only foul that can cancel the ball successfully passing through the goal is a player control foul. Since A2 is not an airborne shooter, this is just a common foul that will result in bonus free throws if the bonus is in effect. Otherwise, the ball is awarded out of bounds to Team B as after any successful goal.
