Play of the Day #192 (2021-22)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

Team B has the alternating possession arrow.  During the fourth quarter, post players B-5 and A-5 are charged with a double personal foul while A-1 is dribbling the ball outside the top of the key.  The official awards to ball to Team B for a designated spot throw-in from the out-of-bounds spot  nearest to where the ball was when the double foul occurred.

Was the official correct?

The official was NOT correct.  A double foul results in a point-of-interruption play.  It is true that the throw-in should be from the spot nearest where the ball was when the foul occurred.  However, since Team A was in control when the foul occurred, Team A should have received the throw-in.

Very Good Play. We, as Officials, need to be aware that this Play is a point of interruption
    situation and rule correctly. Thanks.
