Play of the Day #184 (2021-22)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

Team A is down to five eligible players.  A-1 is fouled in the act of shooting and is injured.  A-1 is unable to continue.  Who will attempt the free throws for A-1?

Normally A-1’s substitute would attempt the free throws.  When no sub is available, at some levels, the opposing coach would get to pick the shooter.  However, in high school ball, Team A’s coach will select the shooter from the remaining four players on the court.  The player selected will attempt all the free throws.

Very Interesting Play. Yes, Correct. Had a game where the defensive team only had four
players because of last player’s fifth foul. They were down by two, coach wanted to finish
game. Waited 30 minutes to remove injured offensive player. The Defensive Team missed
a shot at the end to win the game. Thanks.
