A-5 attempts to dunk the ball. The ball hits the back of the ring and bounces up into the air above the basket. A-5 grasps the ring to prevent injury to himself. While A-5 is holding the ring, the ball passes through the basket.
Handle the situation.
While A-5 is permitted to grasp the ring to prevent injury to himself, this does not change the rule regarding basket interference. Since the ball passed through the basket while A-5 had his hands on the ring, a basket interference violation has occurred. No goal can be scored. Team B is awarded the ball on the end line for a designated spot throw-in.
