The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A-5 receives the ball in the low post with his back to the basket. A-5 takes one quick dribble and, after ending his dribble, steps with his right foot into the middle of the lane. While A-5 is stepping, B-5 fouls A-5. A-5 continues his move to the basket by lifting his left foot, spinning on the right foot and putting the left back on the floor. A-5 then lays the ball in the basket.
Handle the situation.
Since A-5 has started his motion to shoot, continuous motion applies. A-5 has been fouled in the act of shooting. However, since A-5 traveled after the foul, no goal can be scored. A-5 will be awarded two free throws.
