During a throw-in from the sideline, the ball hits the ring and deflects to A-1. A-1 jumps to attempt a try and is fouled. The coach of Team B claims that the ball hitting the ring during a throw-in is a violation.
Was the coach correct?
The coach was NOT correct. While it is a violation for a throw-in to pass through the basket untouched, there is no prohibition about the ball contacting the ring or backboard. The ball remains live and in play.
