During the jump ball, A-5 taps the ball which hits the referee in the head and then is caught by A-5 before the ball hits the floor or any other non-jumper. The official rules a jump ball violation. Is the official correct?
The official is NOT correct. A-5 was entitled to catch the jump ball once it hit the referee. The restrictions on the jumpers end when the ball contacts one of the eight non-jumpers, an official, the floor, the basket or the backboard.
