The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

During the 2nd quarter A-1 is replaced by A-6.  A-1 is disgusted and when he gets to the bench, he takes off his jersey.  The official charges A-1 with a technical foul and charges an indirect technical foul to the head coach.   Is the official correct?


The official is correct.  Removing the jersey within the visual confines of the playing area is an unsporting technical foul by rule.  Since this action was done by a member of the bench, it is also charged indirectly to the head coach.  This results in the loss of the use of the coaching box.

Team B will be awarded two free throws and the ball at the division line opposite the table for a throw-in.
