During the 1st quarter the official rules a blocking foul on B-1. Upon doing so, the official notices that B-1 is wearing the #8. The official charges the head coach with a direct technical foul. Is the official correct?
The official is correct. Unless special dispensation has been granted, the digits for uniform numbers must be zero through 5. The illegal number (#8) makes the uniform jersey illegal. Therefore, the technical foul is ruled against the head coach for allowing a player to participate wearing an illegal uniform.
