Team B is leading 56-53 with 1.5 seconds to go in a state semi-final game. Team A has the ball out of bounds in the backcourt. A-1 inbounds the ball to A-2. B-2 grabs A-2’s jersey and holds on. The official rules this an intentional personal foul. Is the official correct?
The official is correct. The game situation has no bearing on the proper ruling for this play. Grabbing an opponent’s jersey and holding on to that opponent that way is always an intentional foul. (References: Rule 4-19-3c)
