A-1 inbounds the ball to A-2. Rather than catching the ball A-2 elects to use his fist to direct the ball as a pass to A-3. The official rules a violation. Is the official correct?
The official is correct. Neither the offense nor the defense are allowed to use a fist to contact the ball. (References: Rule 9-4)

Yes, it is a violation. I actually called a fisting violation in a CYO girls game where a player hit the ball with a fist when trying to save it from out of bounds.
