The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
Neither team is in the bonus. A-1 is on a breakaway. B-1 is trying to catch up and pushes A-2 out of his way as A-1 is going up to lay the ball in the basket. The official rules a foul on B-1 for the push. The ball goes through the basket.
Handle the situation.
A-1 was in the act of shooting when the foul occurred. As such, A-1 is permitted to finish his attempt. Since the ball went through the goal, the basket is good. B-1’s foul is a common foul. Since Team A is not in the bonus, Team A is awarded the ball for a designated spot throw-in at the spot out of bounds nearest the foul. (References: Rule 4-11-1, 4-11-2, 10 Penalties 1a)

Awesome Paul Behr, absolutely! Remember that most coaches and even officials are naïve about this!
Please add my assoc. president to your list. He may request to add his address book also later.

Thank you sir,

Why isn’t this an intentional foul
No play on the ball
The defender was trying to make a play on the ball that A-1 possessed. A-2 was in the way.
This is a play that some officials would get wrong. Makes you be aware to make the correct call. Thanks.
