The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A1 receives a pass and jumps to attempt a try. After going airborne, A1 loses control of the ball, returns to the floor and regains control of the loose ball. A1 then dribbles in and scores. The official rules a legal play. Was the official correct?
The official was correct. By rule, A1 losing control of the ball is a fumble. Anyone can recover a fumble. Since A1 had not previously dribbled, A1 can dribble in to score. (References: Rule 4-21 )

The player lost control of the ball, allows this to be correct. Officials should not confuse this with coming back to the floor with the ball. Thanks.
