Play of the Day #58 (2018-19)

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-1 is attempting a throw-in from the endline in backcourt.  B-1 deflects the throw-in pass.  A-1 pushes B-1 attempting to recover the ball and is whistled for a common foul.  It is the 10th team foul of the half for Team A.

Handle the situation.

Although the ball is loose, by rule (A team-control foul is a common foul committed…by a member of the throw-in team from the start of the throw-in until player control is obtained inbounds) the common foul by A-1 is a team control foul.  No free throws will be attempted.  Team B will be awarded the ball for a designated spot throw-in nearest to where the foul occurred.   (References: Rule 4-19-7, 10 Penalties 1b)

This Play is also a Team Control Situation. You give Team B an advantage by allowing them to shoot the
    foul shoots. Thanks.
