A-1 is in the backcourt. A-1 attempts to pass the ball to A-2 in the front court. B-2 who is in Team A’s front court, deflects the pass up into the air. The ball is headed out of bounds. B-2 jumps, catches the ball and tries to throw it off of A-2. The ball hits A-2 and goes into the backcourt where it is recovered by A-1. Handle the situation.
This is a legal play. When B-2 caught the ball, he gave Team B team control of the ball. The fact that the ball deflected off A-2 in A’s front court and then was recovered by A-1 in A’s backcourt. is irrelevant since Team A did not have team control. (References: Rule 4-12-1, 9-9-1)
