A-1 drives the lane for a dunk. When A-1 attempts his dunk, the ball hits the back of the ring and goes straight up within the cylinder. A-1 continues to hold on to the ring trying to avoid landing on B-3 and B-2 who are underneath him.  The ball then passes through the basket while A-1 is still holding the ring. The officials rule the basket good.

Were the officials correct?

There is 0:00.6 seconds on the clock with the score tied. Team A has the ball in their frontcourt on the sideline between the coaching box and the scorer’s table for a throw-in. A-1 throws the ball towards the basket where A-5 jumps up, catches the ball with one hand while the ball is inside the imaginary cylinder and dunks the ball. Is this a legal play?

The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

A-1 attempts a 3-point try but it falls short (air ball) and the ball hits inbounds.  The ball is headed out of bounds.  A-2 saves the ball by catching it while airborne from inbounds and throwing the ball back into the court.  The ball bounces in front court and then in the backcourt without being touched.  A-3 recovers the loose ball in the backcourt. The official ruled a legal play.  Was the official correct?

On the opening jump ball between A1 and B1, after the ball was legally tapped by one of the jumpers, the ball was tied up by players A2 and B2, without either team having gained possession of the ball. The referee ruled that the original jumpers A1 and B1 should return to the center circle for a re-jump.   Was the referee correct?
