A-5 and B-5 are jumpers to start the game. A-5 punches the ball. The ball goes out of bounds untouched on the end line. The Umpire rules the ball out off of A-5 and awards the ball to Team B on the end line with the right to move along the end line. Was the official correct?
The official is NOT correct. Punching the ball is a violation. The ball should have been awarded to Team B on the sideline at the division line. The AP arrow would be set to Team A when the ball is at the disposal of Team B for the throw-in. (References: Rule 9-4, 4-3-3a)
