The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.
A-5 attempts to dunk the ball and jams the ring instead. The ball pops up moving to the left. A-5 grabs the ring momentarily for safety reasons. A-5 is unable to grab the ball which is outside the imaginary cylinder but manages to deflect the ball to a teammate.
Handle the situation.
No player (offense or defense) is allowed to use the ring to gain an advantage. A-5 should be charged with a technical foul. Team B will be awarded two free throws and the ball at the division line for a designated spot throw-in.

Have you seen an unusual play? Let all officials benefit from it by sending it to Play of the Day
Very Interesting Play. Correct. A-5 used the rim as an advantage to tap the ball to his teammate.
His Coach is going to complain that A-5 grabbed the rim for safety issues, but instead he gained
an advantage. Thanks!
If this deflection from A-5 happens to be recovered by Team B player, does the play continue, or is there a stoppage of play and a technical foul given to A-5?
Thanks,
