The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

With 1.6 seconds on the clock in a tie ball game, Team A has the ball for a throw-in on the end line in backcourt.  A1 cannot find anyone to pass the ball to and requests a timeout.  The administering official knows that Team A has no timeouts left.

Handle the situation.


Even though the official knows that no timeouts remain, the official must grant the timeout.  Of course, this will result in a technical foul being charged against Team A.  Team A gets to use the timeout.  It will be a 60-second timeout.  After the timeout is over, Team B will be awarded two free throws and the ball at the division line opposite the table for a designated spot throw-in.
