The play described below is provided for your review and discussion. The rulings given are based on NFHS rules. NCAA rulings may be different.

As A-1 is going up for a layup, B-1 intentionally pushes A-2 into A-1.

Handle the situation.


B-1 is charged with an intentional personal foul.  Regardless of the effect on A-1’s attempt for a layup, A-2 will attempt the two free throws since A-2 is the one who was fouled.  Since A-1 was in the act of shooting when the foul occurred, if the try was successful, it will count.  Team A will be awarded the ball for a designated spot throw-in at the spot nearest the foul after the free throws have been completed.  No players will line up along the lane during the free throws.
